Medical Research Council/Uganda, Research Unit on AIDS, Entebbe, Uganda. 2011. “Direct and indirect effects of HIV/AIDS and anti-retroviral treatment on the health and well-being of older people.” (Prepared by a team led by Francine Scholten. Published by WHO: Geneva.)
The study highlights the role and task of older persons in families and the communities where they live and their experiences especially in relation to the care of their grandchildren and relatives and how this burden affects their health. Attention is given to how these interact with the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Uganda. The findings indicate the importance of inclusion of older persons in the services delivered by government and NGOs and reveals the importance of the community in the provision of care and support to older persons.
