Description: This study involves qualitative research in Ruili County, Yunnan province to explore the situation of elderly living with adult children with HIV/AIDS. The area includes a high percentage of minority groups and HIV transmission is mainly through intravenous drug use. The research will describe the socioeconomic conditions, health and well-being, family context HIV infected adults who are cared fro by their parents. Issues examined concern how HIV impacts lives of the parents, the contributions they make and how they cope with the situation. Interviews will be conducted with 15-20 cases and ask about daily living assistance, physical and psychological health care, moral support, coping with fear and anxiety about AIDS, financial stress, risk of negative social reactions and psychological stress including shame and embarrassment about the situation.
