NIH funding opportunities for Multidisciplinary Studies of HIV/AIDS and Aging
May 15, 2012. NIH has announced funding opportunities in the form of R01, R21 and R03 grants for Multidisciplinary Studies of HIV/AIDS and Aging. The goal of this announcement is to invite research grant applications studying HIV infection, HIV-associated conditions, HIV treatment, and/or bio-behavioral or social factors associated with HIV/AIDS in the context of aging and/or in older adults. Research approaches of interest include clinical translational, observational, and intervention studies in domestic and international settings.

Call for Proposals: HIV and Ageing in Africa conference
August 1, 2011. HelpAge International will be hosting a conference on HIV and Ageing in Africa 2-3 December 2011 in Addis Ababa ahead of the International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa. The aim of the conference will be to: 1) highlight the impact of the epidemic on older people aged 50 and above; 2) address the widespread neglect of older people in HIV policy and programming: 3) develop recommendations for an effective response for older people affected by HIV. December 18, 2010. A new section for member presentations has been added and several presentations are already posted:
1) “The Importance of Instruction for Knowledge of Antiretroviral Treatment among Older-Age People.” Presented by So, Dane at the Cambodia Development Research Forum National Symposium on “Research and Policy Response to Cambodia’s Recovery and Development”, September 9-10, 2010, Phnom Penh.
2) “Older-Age People with Children/Household Relatives on ART.” Presented by Khuon, Chandore, and Dane So at HIV/AIDS Coordinating Committee Meeting, Phnom Penh, November 17th, 2010.
3) “AIDS and older persons in the era of ART: Evidence from Thailand.” Presented by Knodel, John, and Chanpen Saengtienchai at Kunming Medical University, China, 16 September 2010. (Both English and Chinese versions).
New section on recent bibliography added
November 5, 2010. A new section called Recent Bibliography has been added to the website. Its purpose is to help members keep up to date on recent literature relevant to AIDS and older persons, especially regarding how older persons are impacted by and contribute to coping with the epidemic. It is not intended as a compete bibliography on the topic but only to alert members of new articles or reports that are published.
Comprehensive report issued on role of older-age persons in supporting family members on ART in Cambodia.
July 17, 2010. The network members from the Analyzing Development Issues Project of the Cooperation Committee for Cambodia have issued their comprehensive report of the results of the research conducted under their direction entitled. “Older-Age People Supporting HIV/AIDS Children and Household Relatives on Antiretroviral Treatment: Case Study of Six Communes of Banteay Meanchey Province, Cambodia.” Please feel free to download the report. July 12, 2010. Research Report issued comparing results from Cambodia and Thailand
July 6, 2010.
